Introducing Bandoggo
A simple color system for safer, kinder, and more comfortable dog encounters.
Check the Color Before You Say Hello
Not every dog wants to be approached—and even the friendliest dog can feel nervous or overwhelmed in certain situations.
Bandoggo uses colored bandanas to help dog owners communicate how comfortable their dog may be around unfamiliar people and animals. A quick look at the color gives everyone a chance to slow down, ask first, and respect the dog’s space.
Know the Colors
evisit six years of challenges, champions, school spirit, and community connection.
Green: Friendly and Approachable
Yellow: Please Go Slowly
Red: Please Give Me Space
Red Does Not Mean “Bad Dog”
A red bandana does not mean a dog is mean, dangerous, or poorly trained.
The dog may be a rescue learning to trust, recovering from an injury, frightened by unfamiliar dogs, or simply more comfortable with extra space. The red bandana gives the owner an easy way to communicate those needs before a stressful encounter happens. The kindest response is simple: notice the color, respect the boundary, and keep moving.
Good Dog Etiquette Starts With Us
- Ask the owner before approaching or petting.
- Approach calmly and avoid sudden movements.
- Never allow a child or dog to rush into another dog’s space.
- Keep dogs leashed where required.
- Give nervous, elderly, injured, or reactive dogs plenty of room.
An Idea Led by Local Students
Bandoggo began as a San Clemente High School senior project. Students involved with The Noble Path Foundation’s high school clubs then took the idea further—researching the color system, developing the program, and presenting it to local leaders.
With support from the City of San Clemente, their idea is becoming a community resource that can help people make better decisions around unfamiliar dogs.
It is a simple concept with a meaningful goal: fewer stressful encounters and safer shared spaces for everyone on two legs or four.
Look for Bandoggo Around Town
Bandoggo signs will explain the color system at local dog parks and other popular community locations. Informational fliers will also be shared with veterinary offices, animal shelters, and organizations that work with dogs and their families.
Free Bandoggo bandanas may be picked up at The Noble Path Foundation during program hours while supplies last.
The building is open during programs for pickup – please call/text to confirm availability.
